ABOUT ME

Hi, I'm Graciela

WHERE I COME FROM

I was born and raised in the Yakima Valley and a product of public education. After high school, I pursued both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in business administration. I have worked as an administrator in Human Resources in the Yakima Valley for over 20 years. Like many people, I attribute much of my success to my parents. They instilled values in me like hard work, perseverance, and gumption. But, they did not do it alone. I had many people including many teachers that shaped me into the person I am today through support, guidance and mentoring.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU

A vote for me is a vote for continued accountability of Yakima Schools to student achievement, a vote for a good steward of public funds, and a vote for a committed and professional community representative. With my contributions to the school board, I hope we can provide the same opportunities for each of our children in Yakima.

HOW TO PRONOUNCE MY NAME

I know my name can be hard to pronounce. Here is my name spelled phonetically: Grah-see-ela Via-nu-eh-va.

VISION STATEMENT

My vision for our children is simple –

  • All children are reading at grade level in third grade

  • All children are prepared for the transition from fifth grade to middle school and from eighth grade to high school

  • All children graduate from high school on time

  • A student’s background does not dictate their success in school

Together, we can achieve this vision by:

  • Focusing on early learning. The littlest of our children need to be ready for kindergarten knowing their A, B, Cs and 1, 2, 3s, how to sit still, and how to be nice to the other kids.

  • Focusing on the core subjects. Our kids need to read, write, do math, understand science, and be exposed to and participate in the arts. Some of those subjects can be hard for some, and we should provide extra help to those who need it.

  • Focusing on attendance and safety. Our children need to show up to school every day and feel safe.
