Serving as a board member of the Yakima School District over the past ten years, I have pushed the district to focus on helping all children succeed. Over the past decade we have seen higher graduation rates, lower dropout rates, and more support services offered to children who need extra support. I was instrumental in developing the Yakima School District’s new strategic plan, which builds a compass pointing to success for each child in the district.
Even though we have accomplished many achievements, we still have a long way to go to find more ways to support the children in Yakima. I believe my education, experiences growing up in the Yakima Valley, and being a parent provide me with a perspective that will continue to contribute significantly to the school board.
